APSP Quarterly - Winter 2008 - (Page 36) Keeping 3 6 | AQ A P S P Q UA R T E R LY T Penny Johnson speaks to APSP volunteers at educational workshop. HE NEED FOR education just isn’t what it used to be. In fact, it’s growing much stronger. Just ask other professionals in the pool, spa and hot tub industry. “The education we need is so advanced now, so many people need a high level of education to build and service pools and spas today,” says Bob Baron, CBP/CSP, of Baron Pool Service, Inc. and MAR BAR Family Pools, Inc. (Ramsey, New Jersey). “Education is extremely important,” agrees Bob Tomlinson, CBP/CSP, of Artisan Pool & Embellishment Services, Inc. (Katy, Texas). “People have got to grasp and take hold of the education that is available,” he adds. “The homeowner is looking for credible professionals with more sophistication and knowledge about their products.” So how can you get the education needed to keep up with fast-changing technology? The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) has been and continues to be the premier training and certifying body in the industry. Founded in 1956, the association has trained thousands of professionals over decades. And along with training, certification has been offered as a way to measure and test knowledge of the necessary concepts to provide professional services to consumers.
