APSP Quarterly - Winter 2008 - (Page 6) president’s message AQ APSP QUARTERLY Volume 1, No. 1 • Winter 2008 An Inaugural Salute to Our Transformational Heroes AS A KID I was fascinated at the transformations that would take comic book figures like Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent or Diana Prince and, in the blink of an eye, change them into heroes and champions. Transformations are engaging, so it’s no surprise that our members relate to APSP transforming itself anew into a vibrant leader in the pool, spa and hot tub community. This new magazine highlights, and is a reflection of, APSP’s transformation. It enables us to better recognize our own heroes – the men and women of our association who volunteer their time and talents to growing our industry and making it a success for everyone. This new AQ is a way to tell our collective story as we continue to demonstrate the power of collaboration on industry issues and concerns. Unlike “quick changes” in the comics, organizational transformations take time and are measured in many achievements by our constituents, both large and small. In this issue of AQ, you’ll note APSP milestones from this past year that are highlighted in our inaugural Annual Report. You’ll recognize the contributions of volunteers who push progress forward while searching for new opportunities to better serve the industry. You’ll witness transformational leadership through the eyes of our current Board Chairman, Penny Johnson. You’ll read how the APSP Career Institute is laying the groundwork for innovative industry approaches to advancing education. You’ll see APSP’s commitment to safety is reflected in the new ANSI/APSP-7 Suction Entrapment Avoidance Standard. And, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how the hot tub community is rallying together in an unprecedented effort to promote the industry. All these initiatives are driven by volunteers, your peers, who are committed to the betterment of this industry. AQ will be a work in progress. Please give us your feedback; drop us a line and let us know how we’re doing. The new magazine will serve as a way to keep you connected, hopefully get you involved and perhaps turn you into one of our industry’s heroes. I know we’ve got extra capes that will fit perfectly.
