Multicultural clients are fashion savvy and knowledgeable. They value the stylist who understands their hair type and texture. Stylists who meet the haircoloring, styling and conditioning needs of these clients can grow their business with loyal repeat customers. dryness. High-density color molecules can also lock in color for longevity and shine. Choosing a shade When recommending haircolor, always consider the personality of the client. Is she ready for vibrant red, or does gentle caramel suit her better? • For fashionable honey, caramels or rich champagne tones in multi-dimensional highlights on relaxed hair, or to diffuse color throughout curly hair, choose a tonal family that eliminates the natural red and orange undertones that exist in darker haircolor levels. • Simple choices are rich brown chocolates, pecan and coffeebean shades. • Client doesn’t want permanent color? Multicultural hair and haircolor There is a diverse range of hair textures among multicultural clients, from a natural tighter curl, to looser waves, to straight chemically relaxed hair. Multicultural hair can be both very strong (so don’t under-process color) and very delicate (so don’t over-process color). Take a preview strand test to determine the best timing for your client’s hair. Choose a color line that performs well on all hair textures, and assure clients that haircolor will be fashionable and healthily maintained between appointments. Regular conditioning treatments are important To maintain hair in good moisturized condition, suggest a conditioning treatment one or two weeks before and after each color service. As an added convenience for the client, at-home conditioning products can be sold (a great opportunity to increase retail sales). Education is the key to success To build multicultural clientele, stylists should study varied hair types and textures.
