BEAUTY CHANGES LIVES, an initiative designed to raise awareness of careers in beauty and wellness, will celebrate its two-year anniversary this summer. What have we achieved, and more importantly, where is the initiative going?
How YOU Can Get Started with Beauty Changes Lives Today
The “beauty” of Beauty Changes Lives is that your school can become as involved as you’d like, as quickly as you’d like. You might want to start small by putting the Beauty Changes Lives digital badge on your website and re-tweeting Beauty Changes Lives content. You can also access free content for your website and school’s social media video sharing initiatives. Visit the Beauty Changes Lives YouTube channel and connect with a variety of videos that celebrate careers in beauty. Even better, post your school’s own videos of makeovers, cut-a-thons, guest speakers, etc. on the Beauty Changes Lives channel. Looking for something to Tweet about? The Beauty Changes Lives Twitter feed is also available at www.beautychangeslives.org. Re-tweet ever-changing content and updates to keep your school’s social media content fresh. For those wanting to engage more fully in Beauty Changes Lives, consider hosting a Beauty Changes Lives event either solo or in partnership with a local salon. Into the Blogosphere and Beyond
On January 5, 2012, Beauty Changes Lives ofﬁcially entered the blogosphere with the Beauty Changes Lives blog. The blog is a forum where many different voices can share their perspectives on how beauty changes lives. Located at www.beautychangeslives.org, the blog shares stories of beauty school students, professionals and ordinary “civilians” whose lives have been changed by the beauty industry. Going beyond the written word, the blog includes video, photos and links to other great content. If you haven’t jumped into the conversation yet, please visit the blog and tell the world how beauty is changing lives at your school. Aside from the blog, please be sure to visit the Beauty Changes Lives Facebook page for real-time updates from BCL and our friends in the beauty community.
Creating New Touch Points and Partnerships
On January 5, 2012, Beauty Changes Lives ofﬁcially entered the blogosphere with the Beauty Changes Lives blog... located at www. beautychangeslives. org.
Beyond the digital frontier, Beauty Changes Lives is also making connections through the American Association of Cosmetology Schools’ 2012 partnership with Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). FBLA is the largest business career student organization in the world. The high school division has 215,000 members, and their newest group, FBLA-Middle School, is showing remarkable growth with over 20,000 student members. FBLA has chapters across the country, who align under a singular goal of preparing kids for careers in business and business-related ﬁelds. FBLA members are bright, career-oriented youth who are leaders in their respective schools. Through live events, online vehicles and print communication channels , BCL will be promoting careers in beauty and wellness to the nation’s best students. With a focus on entrepreneurship, BCL and FBLA will also be encouraging at-risk students to stay in school by showcasing the numerous opportunities within our great industry.
