Q | message from the a a cs pres ide nt an d cea ch air | R CATCHING UP WITH THE TIMES T I The online version of the first issue of BeautyLink made me realize how much technology has changed the way we do things. I remember typewriters, carbon paper and what we now call snail mail, and it makes me appreciate my cell phone, word processor and e-mail. I wonder how I ever managed without them. Our industry is changing fast. We need to change the way we share information so we can change with it. AACS has already made some changes. Those of you on the AACS listserve know how important instant two-way communication is. Where else can you ask 500+ school owners a question 24/7? We’ve had an incredible response to our online member surveys. I want to thank everyone who responded and encourage everyone to reply to the next online survey. The information you have provided is invaluable. That’s just the beginning. AACS intends to increase its use of new technology and electronic media to further improve communication, and we’re moving forward fast. By the time you read this issue, you may have already attended an AACS online Webinar about accreditation, alternative funding or changes in financial aid. You should have watched an online video clip with highlights from the AACS Spring Conference and at least one online video clip from me. I’ve started a Monthly President’s Report available on our Web site to give you an update on the current affairs of AACS. JOHN HALAL AACS PRESIDENT RETURN ON INVESTMENT I am so excited to share with you insights about our Cosmetology Educators of America Convention coming July 10–13, 2009. We have a great lineup of exceptional class presentations and speakers. Our theme for this year’s CEA Convention is “Building Beautiful Careers,” and there is no better time to invest in yourself than now! Investing is taking time and/or money in doing something you enjoy or to get rewarded. We invest in ourselves every day when we walk through the doors of our schools, and we know the return on our investment will be worth every minute. Our return on investment (ROI) comes to us from our students and clients who learn from us and appreciate our talent. Our ROI is extremely high when we see one of our students succeed and fulfill their dreams. Just knowing we had a special part in their success makes it a good investment. This year’s CEA Convention is a good investment. In this issue of BeautyLink, I have highlighted some of our class sessions and presentations on pages 48 and 49. Take the time to read the articles in this issue; I know they will be valuable to you and offer a return on your investment of time. You can check out our Web sites at and www. to register and secure your space at this great convention. be Remember: “Your best investment is you.” So invest in your future. I look forward to seeing all of you this summer at the Cosmetology Educators of America Convention in Las Vegas.
