LOCATED IN HER SMALL HOMETOWN OF NESS CITY, KANSAS, SHE OPENED HER DOORS IN DECEMBER 2009. IN HER VERY FIRST MONTH THE BOOKS WERE NEARLY FULL. PRODUCTION CONTINUES TO GROW DRAMATICALLY MONTH-TO-MONTH. RACHEL SAID THE NUTS AND BOLTS BUSINESS TRAINING PROGRAM, PART OF THE CURRICULUM AT HAYS ACADEMY, HAS HELPED HER BECOME VERY BUSINESS SAVVY. HERE’S WHAT SHE HAS TO SAY:
I have always had a passion for the cosmetology industry. It fuels my enthusiasm and makes me want to be an unstoppable force. This opportunity is a blessing and has given me the chance to better myself, my family and the life of others. In this industry there is no limit to what you can do. As a salon owner I find myself in control of the image and experience I want to portray to my guests. It has been an awesome and very rewarding experience. Even though starting a new business in a small town is very risky, I felt I had something special to offer my guests that no one else could: five-star customer service. I remembered a quote that stuck with me, “To get what you’ve never had, you must do what you’ve never done.” TO GET WHAT YOU’VE While in NEVER HAD, YOU MUST DO WHAT school, Hays YOU’VE NEVER DONE. Academy of Hair Design introduced the Nuts and Bolts Business Program. They gave me the tools and the skills to become business savvy. Paying attention to detail and listening to what my guests want keep them coming back and satisfied. Embracing change and educating my guests is the number-one reason I think I am successful. My advice for students pursuing cosmetology is simple: Follow your heart. Do you want to own a salon? Do you want to be a part of a runway show? Do you want to educate? Do you want to be the next Nick Arrojo? You just have to have the passion, desire and drive to make your dreams come true. Also, knowledge is power! Learn everything you can from your instructors. They are there to help you. Talk to salon owners, go to hair shows and always keep a positive attitude. Use persistence and passion to bring your ideas to life. Motivation and goal-setting are essential to have a successful career. Details are the difference between mediocre and magnificent. I believe I am successful because I am following my dream. My guests are like family, and I know that I can make a difference in their life. I am so happy and grateful to do what I love every day. Remember that we are in the industry to change lives. It might be a physical change, but it also can be an emotional change. Treat others the way you want to be treated, and have fun! This industry provides endless opportunities, and it is up to the individual to determine how far his or her goals will take them.
