2012 Matrix Spread the Love Winners P&G Salon Professional Announces Awards
At America’s Beauty Show (ABS) nine finalists in the second annual P&G Salon Professional Student Stylist Competition took to the stage to be judged by industry notables. And the winners were for Wella Professionals: 1st: Michel Lanoutte, Regency Beauty Institute; 2nd: Andrea Phillips, Cameo College; 3rd: Kelsey Triebes , Bellus Academy; for Sebastian Professional: 1st: Katey Browne, Sassoon Academy; 2nd: Anisha Winston, Regency Beauty Institute; 3rd: Nydia Zypeda, Avalon School of Cosmetology; and for Clairol Professional: 1st: Raina Torelli, Rizzieri Aveda School; 2nd: Sean Farine, Remington College; 3rd: Darcy Morris, Brio Academy/Marinello School of Beauty. This year PGSP also introduced its Instructor of the Year Award, which was awarded to Tommy Ann Wozniak of Avalon School of Cosmetology, Phoenix, AZ. Six unique and passionate beauty professionals have been selected as the 2012 Matrix Spread the Love Ambassadors. This group of cosmetology school grads set off on the journey of their lives in January, visiting 50 Spread the Love Salons and 50 Spread the Love Schools across America, as well as stores, salons, beauty schools and shows. Winners were: Todd Kane, 43, Kohler Academy, Scottsdale, AZ; Timmy Willy, 21, Lafayette Beauty Academy in Lafayette, IN; Suzy Henningsgard, 26, Aveda Institute, Minneapolis, MN; Joshua Falewitch, 21, Xenon International Academy, Omaha, NE; Natalie Fox, 23; Penrose Academy, Scottsdale, AZ; Meredith Tye, 25; Caldwell County Community College and Technical Institute, Hudson, NC.

Quest College Beauty Health and Wellness Institute Aids the Military Community of San Antonio
Quest College hosted an event for 30 military wives to receive makeovers at their training institute for Valentine’s Day. The military wives’ husbands were deployed serving in combat zones in the Middle East. They partnered with local businesses to ensure the ladies had a great day of pampering, beauty and entertainment. The event was a huge success and received publicity from all the local TV stations in San Antonio, as well as the print media.
House of Heavilin Beauty College Smile and Move Award
Something is really changing the culture at our schools, starting with the staff. After an AACS seminar, I was turned on to 212, which is a great idea, yet lacked the everyday actions necessary to “make a difference.” So I researched Sam Parker a little more and came upon “Smile and Move.” It is a great message for staff and students alike—wakeup, be thankful, complain less, smile... really. Lancaster School of Cosmetology Style It, Rock It, Lock It Competition
On Feb. 8 students from the Lancaster School of Cosmetology competed in a Style It, Rock It, Lock It competition as a part of the Spread the Love program. Students had five minutes to create a Punked Out Pink, Rihanna Ready or Gaga Gorgeous look. The goal for the team was to achieve the basic look of the celebrities while adding their own creativity. Some of the Judges included 2012 Spread the Love winners Todd Kane and Timmy Willy.
