Lisa Zarda Earns the CAE Credential
“Nuts and Bolts International Team Leader of the Year Award.” Other notable awards were: Cameo College of Essential Beauty in Utah that was awarded the International Nuts and Bolts School of the Year Award. Chuck Fiegen was recognized with the Nuts and Bolts Lifetime Achievement Award. Joe and Frank Trieu of Evergreen Beauty Colleges in Washington were awarded the Nuts and Bolts Expansion Award. Brandon Martin, owner of Avenue Five Institute in Texas, won the President’s Award. Roberta Archer, from Bellus Academy in California, won the Nuts and Bolts Ambassador Award for her amazing work with the children of Tanzania, Africa. Hays Academy in Kansas won the Step Up and Stand Out Award for taking the lessons learned from last year’s Nuts and Bolts Leadership Conference and applying them in their school to the fullest.

Plans are in the works to run the events through Thanksgiving so that needy families do not go without food during the busy holiday season.
Carsten Aveda Institute Is Giving Back to Future Cosmetologists
Lisa Zarda, general manager for AACS has earned the credential, Certiﬁed Association Executive (CAE). The CAE is the highest professional credential in the association industry. Less than 5 percent of all association professionals have achieved this mark of excellence. Lisa was recognized along with others recently credentialed at the American Society of Association Executives Annual Convention in Los Angeles.

An article ran in The State newspaper detailing how a local food bank, Harvest Hope, is currently suffering a food and donation shortage. This prompted staff and students of Kenneth Shuler’s Columbia campuses to spring into
Carsten Aveda Institute CEO Carsten Wilms, Jenna Rollins and Gloria Hortua recently visited a cosmetology school located in a Bogota, Colombia, where they brought supplies, training and scholarships to over 100 underprivileged students. All students received scissors, capes, mannequins, brushes and hair color kits. The total value of the donation was $12,000, and 33 of the students received scholarships. The funds were collected by students who attend Carsten Aveda Institute New York City and the balance of the equipment was donated by Pivot Point International. The trip was a success, and the Carsten team plans to return in the fall of 2011. They are hoping to get involved with other companies that can donate kits and supplies.
