CMSA Association News CELEBRATING CASE MANAGERS & OUR INDUSTRY  OCTOBER 9  15, 2011 Case managers are important in keeping members of the health care team pointed in the right direction. And National Case Management Week 2011 is your chance to celebrate this and all the other great things about case managers and the case management industry. It’s YOUR week — an exciting time of recognition and celebration! This year’s CM Week theme has a special significance. It was submitted by Brenda Kitchen, a member of CMSA’s Central Virginia Chapter, and selected as the winning entry in the 2011 CM Week Slogan Contest! And just as a compass or global positioning system (GPS) helps one locate a certain destination, case managers make navigating the often choppy waters of the health care continuum, easier, safer, and better! CALL FOR CMSA BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOMINATIONS One Director’s Slot Open for 2012-2013 Term – Find Out More At: It’s time once again to make a “Call for Nominations” to serve on CMSA’s National Board of Directors. This is a great opportunity for CMSA members to have a role and a voice in the direction of the Association. Due to revisions to the CMSA bylaws made last year, many of the Board positions are for two- or three-year terms, resulting in only one open slot for a Director position. Interested candidates must be CMSA members in good standing for a minimum of two consecutive years to run for a director position. Associate CMSA members may also run for office. CMSA is in a period of growth, which opens a way to wonderful opportunities. We cannot ignore these chances. For the good of the Association and our profession, don’t ignore the roots, foundation, and realities that members deal with every day. Board members must be able to keep these in mind. The nominations committee is looking for leadership experience in CMSA, chapters, or other health-related professional associations. When the committee looks at candidates’ qualifications, credit is given for leadership, writing, speaking, and holding a case management-related certification. These all speak to the professional experience and qualifications that are required to be a good director. Good directors need industry-related experience to understand the various realities of CMSA members. One of the ongoing challenges the national board has is to ensure a well-rounded and diverse representation of the CMSA member demographics. Despite the fact that more than 4 percent of members identify themselves as social workers, there are currently no social work professionals serving on the board. We are also looking for individuals from various work settings, including the hospital setting. If you feel you have a calling to serve as a Director on the National CMSA Board, and you meet the requirements for this position, we encourage you to visit for more information.
