There are many definitions of social media, but a good one put out by The Social Media Guide is, “content that is shared over the internet via technologies that promote engagement, sharing and  collaboration.” In 2011, the CCA Board of Directors gave directions for the CCA to develop social media outlets: Twitter (December 2011), LinkedIn (February 2012), Facebook (March 2012) and a blog was started on the CCA website (August 2012). So the next time you visit the homepage of the CCA website, www.coloradocontractors.org, click on the buttons so you can Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn with CCA. What Am I ? W Do You Tweet? A tweet is a post or status update on Twitter. Twitter is a microblogging service so you have only 140 characters or less! So Twitter is a great for keeping people informed without spending ogles of time crafting a post. Twitter is social messaging mixed with the ability to follow and have followers. It has been used effectively by politicians to rock stars as a quick way to connect with an audience. • Median age of a Twitter user is 31 • Thirteen percent of online adults use Twitter, and half of Twitter users access the service on a cellphone • Twitter adoption is particularly high among non-whites • Twitter usage by those ages 25-44 is the fastest growing segment Demographics: PEW Research Center A hash tag (or hashtag) is a way of organizing your updates for Twitter  search engines. Users  prefix a message with a communitydriven hash tag to enable others to discover relevant posts. One commonly used hash tag on Twitter is #followfriday, where users network by providing the names of their favorite people to follow on Twitter. Do You ‘Like’ CCA? Facebook is a social networking website intended to connect friends, family and business associates. It is the largest of the networking sites. It began as a college networking website and has expanded to include anyone and everyone. Facebook users 14 • THE CONSTRUCTORS’ VOICE 2013 create a profile page that shows their friends and networks information about them. The choice to include a profile in a network means that everyone within that network can view the profile. The profile typically includes the following: information, status, friends, friends in other networks, photos, notes, groups and the “Wall.” • Median age of a Facebook user is 26 • Facebook is the dominate social platform in terms of usage! Facebook is still king • Average user has 130 friends on the site • Average user sends 8 friend requests per month • Average user spends an average 15 hours and 33 minutes on Facebook per month • Average user visits the site 40 times per month • Average user spends an 23 minutes (23:20 to be precise) on each visit • Average user is connected to 80 community pages, groups and events • Average user creates 90 pieces of content each month • 200 million people access Facebook via a mobile device each day • More than 30 billion pieces of content are shared each day • Users that access Facebook on mobile devices are twice as active on Facebook compared to non-mobile users • Facebook generates a staggering 770 billion page views per month • Breakdown by country: More than 70 percent of Facebook users come from outside the United States Demographics: PEW Research Center, Edison Research, Facebook.com, Pingdom.com http://www.coloradocontractors.org http://www.Facebook.com http://www.Pingdom.com http://www.naylornetwork.com/coc-nxt/
