CCIA Annual Report 2008 “Chapter of the Year” by the National Ready-Mixed Concrete Association, an outstanding accomplishment. NUCA’s President Terry Dillon attended UCAC’s General Meeting introducing the new Liquid Assets DVD, a media outreach to facilitate local, state, and federal discussions to provide funding to upgrade our nation’s aging water infrastructure system. CCIA’s newly instituted Community Service Award honored members who gave back to their communities with much-needed projects that would have not been completed without our members’ generosity. Labor relations completed the successful negotiations with three-year contracts for both the Operating Engineers and the Teamsters. In addition, CCIA’s labor relations department provided the necessary leadership to manage the escalating costs of health and pension funds to benefit our labor-relations members, as well as promoting joint labor – management training and safety programs. CCIA’s social and networking events remained popular and varied, from the Young Contractors UCONN football game gathering, to the various division golf outings, the UCAC scholarship dinner, and the Concrete Promotion Council’s summer pig roast. Members continued to rely on the association for education and training, be it the popular Safety Roundtables or concrete finishing classes. In 2008, CCIA welcomed its ninth division, the Connecticut Asphalt and Aggregate Producers Association. Their longtime presence in Connecticut will be a strong addition to CCIA’s voice on behalf of our industry. Among the changes for CCIA in 2008 was the initiation of the electronic version of the weekly newsletter Highlights and the addition of the e-version of CONNstruction magazine. The most notable change for CCIA in 2008 was at the executive level with Don Shubert becoming CCIA President as of July 1, 2008. CCIA members thanked and honored Marvin Morganbesser, who retired as President of CCIA after 41 years of service to the association. It will be under Don Shubert’s leadership that CCIA will continue to “Build a Better CT” in 2009 and beyond.
