The government created a new $4 billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund that will provide funding to infrastructure rehabilitation projects. Funding will be available for two years for projects that will begin during the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons, and the fund will cover up to 50% of project costs. The budget also announced a five-year $1 billion Green Infrastructure Fund and $500 million for infrastructure in smaller communities. Finally, acceleration of funding for longer-term infrastructure projects was also committed. All of the above initiatives include eligibility for public transit.
