Tablet Shopping Fuels ‘Couch and Pillow’ Commerce
For millions of Americans, the tablet is their personal, no-pressure salesperson. It takes them on shopping sprees while they’re curled on the couch or nestled beneath blankets in bed. When a TV show gets slow, they browse; when they can’t fall asleep at night, they let their minds unwind by wandering across a few dream buys. Tablet shoppers spend as much or more per purchase than smartphone or desktop/laptop shoppers. The rub, so far, has been volume, but that is growing quickly. eMarketer forecasts 1 in 5 Americans – double the number from 2011 – will use a tablet by the end of 2012.
