Massachusetts Fire Chief 2009 - (Page 28) LE ADERSHIP MAT TERS LEGISLATIVE AGENDA The IAFC is a recognized leader on Capitol Hill. The IAFC Leadership, supported by our Government Relations department, helps to bring the issues that impact your department to the forefront of our nation’s lawmakers. In addition, the Government Relations department provides up-to-theminute information about federal legislation and regulations that affect your ability to get the job done. The IAFC will continue to work with Congress, federal government departments and agencies on all key issues. Furthermore, the IAFC will keep you informed about vital legislation on areas such as EMS, health and safety, volunteers, communications and risk management through news alerts. This will be a very busy year on the Hill. Legislative issues that we are currently working on are the reauthorization and funding of the FIRE Act and SAFER grants along with the funding for the U.S. Fire Administration and National Fire Academy, implementation of the PSOB program, job protection and tax incentives for volunteer firefighters and tax incentives for fi re sprinkler retrofits. The IAFC seeks feedback from members and nonmembers alike on how to improve the association and to enhance service to today’s fire-service leaders. Members are also invited to indicate areas of expertise that you would be willing to contribute when the opportunity or a committee appointment becomes available. Please go to www.iafc.org/getinvolved to make a comment or fill out the form for consideration of a committee appointment. We should all view the IAFC as an extension of FCAM focusing on fire service issues that affect us directly. Those of you that are not members I urge you to join now and start receiving the many benefits offered by the IAFC. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the FCAM membership for their support during my election to the IAFC Executive Board and I am looking forward in serving you over the next few years. If I can ever be of assistance, do not hesitate to contact me at 978-250-5267 or email me at chiefcfd@aol.com.
