Chairman’s COMMUNIQUÉ Our Virtual Battlefield et me start out by saying what a wonderful time I had at the recent 2008 Convention and Trade Show! Rosen Shingle Ken Wood Creek of fered a great setting for FPMA staff to coordinate a beneficial and productive time to speak about our industry. I enjoyed walking the trade show floor to see many of you, and I also enjoyed getting caught up on the latest and greatest the industry has to offer. L also, to BP, Federated Insurance, Marathon Petroleum, McLane Suneast, Citgo Petroleum, HCR and Florida Rock & Tank Lines for sponsoring additional convention events. The FPMA golf tournament was a blast. What a beautiful course! The fi nal banquet was also a treat. While listening to “1964”…The Tribute, I had to keep reminding myself they weren’t the real Beatles! Between the food and entertainment, this year’s banquet will be hard to beat! For those of you who could not attend, you were surely missed. I do hope you are able to join us in 2009. Not only are our volumes down and margins squeezed, but our field has turned into a virtual battlefield. Private or family-owned oil companies are being boiled down by the media and stuffed into a hypothetical “Big Oil” box. I was encouraged to see such excellent vendors represented. I appreciate your continued support and thank you for your contribution. Special thanks, In terms of issues this year, many breakout sessions circled around the depressed economy in which we work. Not only are our volumes down and margins squeezed, but our field has turned into a virtual battlefield. Private or familyowned oil companies are being boiled down by the media and stuffed into a hypothetical “Big Oil” box. To counter this, we must educate the public. Over the next two years, as your chairman, I vow to work along side you to spread the word that we are not villains, but rather fellow community members. We need to foster the positive public image FPMA has always cultivated. We need to show that we also want a healthy economy and won’t stop until we get it. We are still neighbors serving neighbors. Don’t give up the fight. Finally, I encourage you to be involved. We have a very talented and highly respected leadership, which is only as effective as the FPMA members allow them to be. Please continue your support through donations of time, money and innovative thinking. It will take all three to keep us in the game. ❍ UST Abandonment A Division of Tailored Foam of Florida, Inc Providing Service Since 1992 Get a jump on the NEW 2009 Federal Mandate!
