Georgia Construction Today - First Quarter 2009 - (Page 14) Chapter Member Makes Hiring Interns Part of Strategic Plan By Irene Wazgowska, CEFGA Feature Writer In 1976 Charlie Garbutt started C.E. Garbutt Construction Company and he knew from the beginning that in order to be successful, he had to work with a strong team. Since then, he has maintained such a team, and as a result, made a name for himself in Dublin, Ga. and its surrounding areas. But Charlie knows that in order to stay on top and to continue his strong foothold, he must continue to grow his business internally. That’s why Charlie and his team make it part of their strategic plan to be involved in construction education and the CEFGA Summer Internship Program for high school students. Garbutt Construction, as well as other construction companies from the middle Georgia area, is helping the region by working closely with Georgia Branch, AGC and CEFGA. The companies have provided financial support and are working together to provide opportunities for students in their area. They recognize the importance of their involvement within the educational system. Charlie is excited about CEFGA and Georgia Branch, AGC and what these organizations are doing in collaboration with each other to support the industry and future generations of construction workers. He says they are bringing the industry to the forefront while giving young adults an opportunity to consider a career in construction. Charlie thinks “high school isn't Charlie Garbutt too early to start pitching.” President C. E.
