Communicating corporate values Leading organizations repeat their value statement on their website’s career section, company intranet and other employee communications materials so employees and employer are clear about organizational values. Best employers relate everything back to their values to reinforce how upholding the organization’s values help them run a more successful enterprise. 2. Ethical standards and reporting education Best employers provide training on their code of conduct and ethics, and include scenarios illustrating expected standards of behaviour. INTEGRITY/ETHICS The 2008 survey gauged the degree to which co-workers, managers and senior leaders displayed integrity and ethical conduct. • Eighty per cent of employees at best employers believed their coworkers displayed integrity and acted ethically compared to 68 per cent at moderate and 61 per cent at low engagement employers. • All leaders were positive about the ethical conduct of their employees and co-workers, with 93 per cent of best employers and 83 per cent of low engagement organization leaders expressing the same sentiment. • Most telling was the difference in employee opinion with respect to the integrity of senior leaders. At low engagement organizations, only 49 per cent of employees agreed or strongly agreed that leaders displayed ethical conduct; 82 per cent did so at the best employers. Not surprisingly, the difference was much smaller when leaders were asked the same question. Reporting structure This measures the degree to which employees and leaders know how to report breaches of conduct and how comfortable they were in doing so.
