ISTAT foundation Here we are, just past the start of a new year—one which brings with it the 25th anniversary of ISTAT, and it’s an occasion to celebrate and commemorate. The focus of the celebration will be the gala dinner at the Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla. Plans are well advanced, and as usual from the Foundation perspective it will include recognition for those of you who have been generous enough to contribute to our fundraising efforts via the Roundtable. Incidentally, if you haven’t already been contacted by someone from the Foundation’s fundraising committee, it’s likely that the phone is just about to ring, and I would encourage you not to wait for the call but also feel free to contact Bob Brown, Wayne Lippman or myself to discuss the Roundtable beneﬁts. Early contributions to the Roundtable fundraising have been very encouraging, and to date three contributors have been generous enough to commit $25,000 each recognizing not only the 25th Anniversary of ISTAT but also this years focus on establishing the Foundations Endowment category (all funds raised via the Roundtable this year will be allocated to the endowment). We encourage all of you to consider Roundtable membership and also to dig deep and think about the higher Roundtable membership levels of $25 & $50,000 in this special year. Should the Roundtable not be on your agenda the Annual Meeting will offer other alternatives for contributions including the golf tournament, a silent auction and concluding with a live auction at the Gala Dinner which we anticipate will include a small number of unique industry items/experiences. Due to the kind sponsorship of some ISTAT members we will again be able to bring six students who have beneﬁted from Foundation scholarships in the last 12 months so that you can all hear from the horse’s mouths how much your donations to date have helped bring new people into our industry. I can’t end this column without again beating the Internship Program drum. We are looking for members who are prepared to host an intern in 2008. We are already receiving huge interest from the schools that the Foundation already works with, as well as other schools both domestic and international, and we anticipate that this year will see a large increase in students looking for placements. The internships hold great potential to introduce a wide variety of students from varying academic backgrounds to the aviation industry, and it’s a great compliment to the scholarship and grant efforts. The Internship Committee has also assumed responsibility for the Warriors to Work Program and we are looking to the ISTAT membership to provide opportunities for this program, so please consider it, and if you have any questions contact Warren Willits.
