ISTAT foundation After the euphoria of the Gala Dinner at the ISTAT 25th Annual Conference, everyone within the Foundation organization has returned to the business of “investing” the funds raised. We continue to progress our established scholarship and grant strategies, however we look to broaden their reach—especially internationally. We are also contemplating what additional dedicated resources the Foundation requires to support its growing objectives. However, I would like to shift the focus of this column to two programs where we very much need the membership’s support—internship and Warriors to Work. It may seem strange to be discussing internships at this point in the year, but I am prompted to do so because budget season will soon be upon us (or so our parent company advises me), and the experience with this year’s internship program suggests that we should all consider adding provisions for the cost of taking an intern. This year, under Warren Willits’ guidance, the Internship Committee secured more than 70 applicants for internship positions, which was a huge achievement. But, we were only successful in placing ﬁve interns with our members. One reason for such a low placement ratio is the lack of budget provision, so let’s all be sure to plan ahead. Stephen Rimmer, Chairman ISTAT Foundation While the internship program is somewhat more “seasonal” in its focus, the Warriors to Work Program is a year-round program, and I would strongly encourage you to consider this program for your organization and budget accordingly. (Warren Willits can advise as to likely costs). The program is extremely worthwhile. We anticipate that by the end of this year we will have reﬁned the program and process so that we can identify candidates who will offer the skills and capabilities that more accurately address the memberships’ requirements, while recognizing the geographical challenges of matching candidates with companies. Please consider an allowance within your budgets to allow you to take in a candidate under this program.
