ISTAT foundation
David P. Sutton, Chairman ISTAT Foundation While summer is supposed to be a time to relax, it seems the aviation industry is busier than ever! The recent ISTAT Reception in London produced a full house with more than 800 pre-registered guests and about 200 additional attendees registering on-site. It will go down as our best-attended airshow reception ever! The Farnborough Airshow was no sleeper either with a strong showing of aviation customers lining up to purchase new aircraft. Order books appear to be strong, and the spirit was positive. Similarly, the Foundation isn’t letting any grass grow under our feet as the ISTAT Scholarship and Grants Committees have launched initiatives with major universities around the globe. If you have a strong connection with a U.S. domestic or international university with which you feel we should be working, please contact Rebecca Holloway (rholloway@istat.org) at ISTAT headquarters and share key contact information for our list. As you may know, we provide scholarships to students in every phase of aviation. This includes those studying the lease/finance side of our business which, at the moment, is an area of our focused attention. While I personally feel we have a strong list of universities around the world, we are always interested in supporting institutions which our members themselves attended. ISTAT AirLink is now officially up and running! Over the past few weeks Ty Prettyman and his team have spent countless hours training non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on how to use the system. I am proud to note that FedEx Express is the first official Airline Partner to sign on with the AirLink Program. Our FedEx team has recently gone through training provided by AirLink staff and will very soon become an active partner. If you represent an airline, I urge you to call headquarters

and sign up as an AirLink Partner. We are all well aware that in many cases we fly into areas around the globe with empty seats and cargo space which can be used to help bring food, medical supplies and aid workers to areas in need. Together we can help bring humanitarian aid and much-needed relief to the world. Finally, as we reported recently, Tom Heimsoth is hard at work with our consultant to evaluate the efforts of our Foundation and how we can improve our processes as well as work on governance models. In

the coming month, you will receive a survey so that you too can take part in this important evaluation process. Enjoy the summer! I look forward to seeing you at our October ISTAT European Conference in Munich. Rest assured, our Foundation volunteers are hard at work making good things happen. Thank you, to all of you, for your passion and devotion in supporting your Foundation’s causes! This fine organization simply would NOT exist without your dedication and support! Thanks again to all of you!
