Among activities for participants in this year's
Appraisers Forum, sponsored by Boeing Capital Corporation
in Seattle, was a close-up tour of the impressive vintage
military airplanes that comprise the Flying Heritage
Collection of Paul Allen. The annual BCC event attracted
more than 40 appraisers, of which 32 were ISTAT appraisers.
This was the largest turnout in the event's nine-year history.
In addition to the tour and the brieﬁngs on the latest
Boeing aircraft, a tour of the materials testing and ﬂight
simulator development laboratories were highlights.
Shooting landings in the B747-800 and B777 tried the skills
of many. A working lunch at a winery is now, we hope, an
annual event.

The de Havilland Albatross

and was converted to the standard Rapide
passenger conﬁguration. Finally, in 1989 it
was moved to Wright-Patterson Air Force
Base and painted in the same scheme as
the original six WWII aircraft. You can see
it there with prior permission.
Post-war saw surplus DH Rapides
bought by start-up airlines-one of which
became Channel Airways, which had a
route from Shoreham to Guernsey, Channel
Islands. It was my observation when at
the airport that a high percentage of its
passengers were honeymoon couples with
other things on their minds than possible
termite infestation of the wooden-wing
spars.
