Background and Outlook
The Airbus A330 is one-half of a double family of aircraft launched in the early 1990s. On one side of the family are the twin-engine A330s, which come in three flavors: the short-body -200 and -200F, and the long-body -300. On the other side of the family are the four-engine A340s: the -200s, -300s, -500s and -600s, all passenger models with different body lengths and range capabilities. Depending on engine selection and operational assumptions, the A330-200 model has a range capability of about 7,000 nautical miles with a full load of passengers. Passenger versions of the A330-200s and A330-300s have sold well, with each having racked up more than 500 orders. They are both good aircraft in their own right, and in terms of market success, both have been beneficiaries of the much-delayed Boeing 787 project. The current production rate is seven to eight aircraft per month (all A330 versions). At this rate, the order backlog represents about four years of production. Ultimately it is expected that the A330s will be succeeded by the A350 models now in development.

Values
The current market values and base values through 2022 are shown in the nearby table. These values assume an aircraft in average condition for its age, and in mid-time/mid-life maintenance status. The forecast values consider various factors, such as the long-term growth of airline traffic, the historical trends of aircraft values in the past, and the expected longevity and competitive standing of the A330 relative to current and future aircraft. A passenger-to-freighter conversion program will likely help to sustain their residual values.
