LOGA Industry Report - Fall 2008 - (Page 26) The Haynesville Shale – Waiting For the Gas to Come In By all accounts, it appears Louisiana’s ship has come in, and we’re not talking about another riverboat casino. Even Governor Bobby Jindal is excited about the millions of dollars in bonus money being paid for leases to Haynesville Shale landowners in the northwestern part of the state. LOGA President Don Briggs welcomed the audience to this industry-supported educational seminar and introduced the four panelists who spoke on various topics of interest. Ray Lasseinge, president and co-owner of TMR Exploration, Inc. in Bossier City and co-owner of Langston Drilling Company, L.L.P. and Sandia Drilling, L.L.C., led the drilling discussion about rig pads, fracturing, vertical drilling and the now-popular horizontal drilling. Kevin Hill, president of Hill Geo-physical Consulting in Shreveport, conducted the seismic activity discussion on how the productive gas pockets within the Haynesville Shale are located, the equipment used and what compensation landowners can expect from the drilling company. Lafayette attorney Tommy Smart, shareholder in the office of the Onebane Law Firm, covered the topics of oil and gas law, including oil and gas title examination; acquisition and sale of producing properties; structuring, drafting and negotiation of various agreements; 3-D seismic permitting; and licensing. Bryan Hanks, president of BETA Land Services, L.L.C. in Lafayette, talked about leases, royalties, royalty buyers and units. Hanks is a Certified Professional Landman with more than 27 years experience in all phases of land work. All in all, it was a most informative and educational seminar, with everyone who attended receiving a packet that included a sample standard lease contract and a glossary of terms used by the various gas and leasing companies. Like many seminars held in the past few weeks, it was standing room only for the educational seminar I attended on natural gas production of the highly touted Haynesville Shale, presented by the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association (LOGA). A crowd of some 600 interested landowners, homeowners and neighborhood associations packed the LSU-S University Theatre Center in Shreveport for the nearly two-hour presentation that was followed by a 30-minute question-and-answer session. The Haynesville Seminar, a joint presentation by the LSU Center for Business and Economic Research and LOGA, was designed to give the public the best information about leasing; drilling and production; and the seismic research conducted prior to locating the gas wells to be drilled. by Tom Pace, Executive Editor, “Talk of the Town”(www.ShreveTalk.com) Tom Pace is the radio talk show host for “Talk of the Town,” Saturdays, 11 am -1 pm on SuperTalk 1340, KRMD-AM, Streaming Live on www.SuperTalk1340.com. 26 | LOGA INDUSTRY REPORT | FALL 2008 http://www.loga.la http://www.loga.la http://www.SuperTalk1340.com http://www.ShreveTalk.com
