Message from Alberta KEN MANWEILER PRESIDENT HANS TIEDEMANN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR t hardly seems possible that come May 9, 2008 at the MCA Alberta Annual General Meeting in Jasper when I turn over the President’s gavel that I will have served two terms as your President. The time has gone by too quickly! I have appreciated the opportunity to serve the Provincial MCA for two successive years as did my predecessors of Doug Anderson, Anderson Plumbing Co Ltd, Calgary; Daryl Zimmerman, WPH Mechanical Services, Edmonton; Rand Carvell Pad-Car Mechanical, Medicine Hat; and Brad Diggens of MJS Mechanical Ltd, Calgary (3 years). As a provincial body we have seen growth in our membership and in our various events such as Membership Meetings, Annual Conference, Regional and Provincial Golf Tournaments, Provincial Curling Bonspiel, Lobsterfest, River Queen Tours and of course the Edmonton and Calgary Old Timers Events. Your Association and its many volunteers are also very active representing our trade at Career Fairs, Trade Fairs, Local & Provincial Apprenticeship Committees, the Plumbing, Gas & Building, Safety Codes Councils, the Alberta Construction and the Alberta Construction Safety Associations and even at the National level of MCA Canada and various trade related committees. Yes our Association is very active! The Executive and Board meet on a regular basis to ensure the smooth running of the MCA of Alberta. I would like to take this opportunity to thank MCA Alberta staff Vicky Derkson, Corinne Suttie and Executive Director Hans Tiedemann for all of their hard work and help during the past two years. They worked very hard for the benefits of our membership and trades. Although there were a number of Association accomplishments during my term there is one highlight yet to come in 2008 and that is the 8th World Plumbing Conference, September 24 – 27, 2008 in Calgary. In 2002 at the 6th World Plumbing Conference the three Canadian partners of MCA Alberta, MCA Canada and CIPH (Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating) were successful in being awarded the 8th World Plumbing Conference. Yes during September 24 to 27 Canada will host the World during this WPC Conference which will also serve as the MCA Canada Annual Conference. CIPH will have their 2008 CIPHEX West Trade Show September 25 & 26 which will provide all conference delegates the added opportunity to visit the Trade Show. I have enjoyed my time on the MCA Alberta Board and as your President. I encourage you to give serious considerations about your willingness to serve, whether at a committee level or on the Board of Directors. We are participating in a lively and challenging industry and the best way to stay in the loop is to become involved. This is one way to give back to the industry that provides your livelihood. I look forward to seeing many of you at our Provincial Conference May 8 – 11 at the magnificent Jasper Park Lodge in Jasper.
