Mechanical Piping Plumbing Journal 2008 - (Page 13) Message from British Columbia ANDREW WONG PRESIDENT DANA TAYLOR EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT hat a momentous year 2007 was for the Mechanical Contractors Association of British Columbia! It was a year where we gained many new members, offered new services, solidified a new commitment for strategic growth and partnerships - all in the midst of one of the biggest construction booms our province has ever seen. I am honored to be welcomed as the new President of the MCABC. In 2007, MCABC laid the framework to develop deeper relationships with the BC construction industry: We have committed to forging a deeper alliance with our sister association, the Electrical Contractors Association of BC, to become an even greater voice in the BC Construction trades. In addition, our aim is to connect with the design portion of our industry through the creation of a “professional” membership category. This would allow engineers, designers, architects, general contractors and construction managers to have a stronger relationship with our mechanical contractors that will promote greater opportunities to collaborate and keep projects on track, while assisting with the necessary construction harmony required for successful projects. 2007 was also a year where we committed ourselves to provide value for our strongest supporters – our current members. We are revising our dues structure to make MCABC membership an equal value for all our members. We have developed an amazing new website that offers a host of features never seen at MCABC that connects our membership with each other. We also have plans to promote our members and membership value to an even greater extent – and to promote the amazing career opportunities that our trade enjoys! 2007 was truly a catalyst for the great things to come in 2008: Our AGM and Conference will be held in Kelowna, and it looks to surpass our amazing Conference last year! Our new “brand” will be on full display, and MCABC looks to gain even more prominence than ever before this year. I am truly excited to be involved with MCABC in such an exciting time. Of course, none of our successes would be possible without our hard working volunteers who serve on all our committees and boards. They devote their time and energy to accomplish truly amazing things for our membership, and they deserve accolades for all that they do. The Association staff work hard every day to provide great services for MCABC, and they too, receive our appreciation. I am truly inspired by the membership, the volunteers, and the staff of this Association. Last year we laid the groundwork for success, and today are working together to make sure that 2008 is the year of MCABC! Respectfully submitted, Andrew Wong President, MCA British Columbia W Mechanical Contractors Associations of Alberta, B.C., Manitoba & Saskatchewan 2008 13
