8TH WORLD PLUMBING CONFERENCE— CANADA HOSTS THE WORLD CANADIAN PARTNERS n 1990 the then members of the newly formed World Plumbing Council decided to hold a World Plumbing Conference every third year in various locations throughout the world. September 24th – 27th, 2008, the three Canadian bid partners of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Alberta (MCAA), the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) and the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) will introduce the members of the World Plumbing Council to the wonder and diversity of Calgary, Alberta, Canada as the host city for the 8th World Plumbing Conference. The 2008 World Plumbing Conference, which will also serve as the annual national conference of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada, will include extensive business and trade programs combined with social and recreational events. The theme chosen for the conference is “Water – Our Life; Our Business; Our Responsibility”. In conjunction with the 2008 World Plumbing Conference Western Canada’s largest plumbing, cooling, piping and heating show, CIPHEX WEST, will take place September 25 & 26 providing an added highlight to the delegates of the conference (see www.ciphexwest.ca) Prior to the conference, on September 23 & 24 the Annual General meeting of the World Plumbing Council (WPC) will take place. It is at this AGM that the Executive and Directors of the WPC will be chosen for the next three years as well as the decision made as to who will host the 10th World Plumbing Conference. Preliminary information suggests that possibly the countries of China and India may put forward a bid to host the 10th conference. A decision was made at the 7th WP conference in New Zealand that Edinburgh, Scotland will host the 9th World Plumbing Conference in 2011. The first of what was to become the World Plumbing Conference was held in Sydney, Australia September 15 – 21, 1985 by the Australian plumbing contracting industry. Representatives from fourteen countries attended this conference and exhibition. It was not until May 28 – June 2, 1990 that the second World Plumbing Conference and Trade Exhibition took place in London, England where 1,200 representatives from over 30 countries attended. The countries in attendance elected an Inner World Plumbing Council who would meet over the next three year period. Their role was to develop a structure for a World Plumbing Council prior to, or at the next (3rd) World Plumbing Conference and Ibex Show in Hong Kong June 15 - 18, 1993. Almost 1,500 individuals attended this conference. Since then the World Plumbing Conferences have been held October 3 – 6, 1996 in Chicago, USA, September 14 – 19, 1999 Sun City South Africa, May 22 – 25, 2002 Berlin Germany and March 2 – 5, 2005 in Auckland New Zealand.
