Mechanical Piping Plumbing Journal 2008 - (Page 8) Message from Canada continued sector. Business tools, discount programs, and education will be a primary importance. Recently, several dispatchers’ programs for service contractors were offered and were a huge success! Watch for more details and more programs emanating from this enthusiastic and dynamic group of contractors. Our Membership Advantage Program (MAP) continues to grow with more MAP partners coming on board such as, more recently, Praxair, Chase Paymentech Credit Card and Chrysler Canada. Our Associate Membership exceeded 100 this past year and their involvement in the Association is increasing. Our Unionized Contractors Council has been active and recently met with national and provincial UA representatives in Calgary on February 5, 2008. Joint MCA/UA meetings are held several times a year with representatives from across Canada addressing management/labour issues from a national perspective. Your national association is as active as it ever has been working on your behalf. And we expect to be doing even more in the short and long-term. MCA Canada’s Board of Directors has recently approved a new Strategic Plan for the Association which concentrates on such things as a greater influence with the federal government, a more proactive approach on career awareness within our industry, better and more effective ways to communicate to MCA Canada members as well as allied organizations, increasing the number of members within provincial MCA’s (ICI, Associate, Service) and ensuring the operational sustainability of MCA Canada. As you can see, MCA Canada is a very active organization. In this report we have provided you with a “snapshot” of Association activities however a more, in-depth report on all of the activities of your Association for 2007/08 will be presented at the Association’s Annual General Meeting in September of this year during MCA Canada’s national conference in Calgary, Alberta. This event will truly be a very special occasion as we, together with our partners, the Mechanical Contractors Association Alberta and the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating, will be hosting the world during the World Plumbing Conference at the same time! The Canadian host committee looks forward to seeing as many of you as possible during the Conference scheduled for Calgary, Alberta, September 24-27, 2008. We sincerely hope you can make it!
