Club Management - January/February 2008 - (Page 21) Feature Missions Accomplished Linda Carroll at the dock of White Bear Yacht Club. Linda with husband George Carroll, CCM A As Linda Carroll, CCM, wraps up a successful term as CMAA’s second female president, Club Management asks her to reflect on challenges and accomplishments, give advice to new club managers, and talk about how she finds a solid work/life balance. CM: Discuss your accomplishments over the past year as president of CMAA. LC: My main focus this year was to continue the initiatives that Burt Ward set forth during his term. I am pleased with the direction and focus of CMAA, and I am particularly excited about CMAA’s future with the Golf Industry Show and looking forward to continued success in Orlando in 2008. We have seen the successful implementation of Premier Club Benefits Program and now the Directors’ and Officers’ Liability Insurance Program. Each of these is an added benefit to membership in CMAA. We saw our Leadership and Legislative Conference format change with special attention paid to chapters and the challenges they face. I was excited to see this conference in New York City this year. While it is difficult, due to additional expense, for this event to move away from the national office every year, I look forward to seeing it travel across the country every second or third year. Education will always be the primary focus of CMAA, and we will continue to refine the existing BMI programs. I look forward to the development of the BMI Membership Marketing program in the near future. The BMI Food and Wine Experience and the BMI Golf Management Program were a huge success, and we will see the BMI International program moved to England in 2008 with a focus on city clubs. I implemented a CCM task force this year to review the requirements and the competencies needed for attaining this certification. This had not been done in a number of years. I am very pleased with the relationships that have developed with CMAA and the USGA, NGCOA, GCSAA and the PGA. The progress that has been made with the release of the joint economic impact study and the continued governmental affairs initiatives shows what we can do if we all work together. On a lighter note, one of my goals is also to reduce the length of the opening and closing business sessions at our World Conference while still maintaining the quality of our keynote speakers.
