Club Management - January/February 2008 - (Page 32) CONFERENCE PREVIEW Golf Industry Show Joint Education “Mark Of A Leader” “Life is a story. My life, your life, your career – it is all a story. If you accept that it is a story, you have to accept accountability, because you are writing the story, and you are the central character in the story.” With these words, master storyteller Doug Keeley begins a unique journey with his audience into the heart of leadership, with a look at how some of the world’s most successful leaders and brands have changed the world. The journey is called the Mark of a Leader. The program is a treasure chest of inspiring stories about the world’s greatest leaders and brands, and the principles that have made them successful. The stories use rare images, state-of-the-art video, multimedia, original music, and are narrated by a live storyteller. They cover virtually every aspect of life, ranging from Apple to Starbucks, Roger Bannister to The Beatles, Sir Win- Doug Keeley ston Churchill to Oprah, “Chicken Soup for the Soul” to Cirque du Soleil, golf to music. You will be inspired to think about your role and priorities as a leader, and to improve your leadership skills. Education As with past conferences, a large number of educational opportunities will be available at the 2008 conference in Orlando. More than 80 education sessions are planned including Pre-Conference Workshops, three-hour seminars and 90-minute sessions. Topics have been carefully selected to meet the current needs and interests of managers and to include as many aspects of the nine competency areas as possible. Most programs will be 90 minutes in length and will earn participants oneand-a-half CMI Education credits per session. By attending a session in each available time slot, managers can earn as many as 24 CMI Education credits. An additional 12 CMI Education credits can be obtained by attending two Pre- and At-Conference Workshops. Pre- and AtConference Workshops also offer in-depth exploration of specific topics within the nine competency areas. They are designed to continue the tradition of developing the most comprehensive programs ever offered by CMI, combined with the commitment to prepare managers for certification. Managers are able to select from: • A three-day Bicycle Chautauqua (Tuesday, January 29-Thursday, January 31) • Four workshops on Wednesday, January 30; and five workshops on Thursday, January 31.
