Club Management - May/June 2008 - (Page 39) Global Outreach News from around Europe T he Club Managers Association of Europe (CMAE) is very pleased to welcome five new club managers’ organizations into the CMAE family as affiliate organizations, and we particularly welcome more than 2,500 new affiliate members into the CMAE from these organizations. At the CMAA World Conference in Orlando recently, CMAE president John McCormack signed affiliation agreements with the following club managers’ associations: Club Managers Spain: CMS is a new organization for club managers in Spain, but in less than a year, they represent 95 percent of clubs in mainland Spain and its Mediterranean islands. CMS has more than 350 club managers and 80 assistant managers and organizes four conferences a year in each of its regions. Norwegian Golf Management Association: Although Norway is a small golfi ng country in Europe and most clubs only have a five- or sixmonth playing season, the 110 members of the Norwegian Golf Management Association are keen to ensure their clubs are among the best in Europe. Belgian Association of Golf Club Secretaries: BAGS is a long-established organization with 90 members split 50/50 between their Flemish and Walloon regions. Belgium is an important country in the heart of modern Europe, with the European Commission based in its capital of Brussels. Association of Golf Managers in Portugal: Some of the busiest golf clubs in Europe are located in this beautiful country, making education of club managers a very important topic. This organization currently has more than 100 members and is keen on working with the CMAE on the development of an education program for its managers. Golf Club Managers Association of the UAE: The UAE (in particular the two emirates of Dubai and Abu Dhabi) has been rewriting the club management book in recent years. Huge, five-star properties dominate the club business in the Middle East, and the managers who look after these properties need to be among the best in the world. There are only 24 members at the moment, and this number is sure to grow in the future. These fi ve new partners join the other fi ve associations that are already affi liated, as announced in the December issue of Club Networker, namely: Swedish Golf Management Association; European Golf Course Owners Association; Finnish Golf Managers Association; Irish Association of Golf Club Secretaries and the Private Clubs Alliance of Russia. Running for Charity Running a 5k race when you are jet-lagged is not recommended, but two CMAE members at the CMAA World Conference in Orlando did just that. The event was held the day before the official Nigel Cartwright and Paul Miller after the CMAA Run with the President. MAY/JUNE 2008 • 39
