Club Management - September/October 2007 - (Page 43) New Directions Managers on the move, member announcements Bill Wagner, CCM, joined Currahee Club in Atlanta on May 1, bringing with him 30 years of leadership experience in hotel, resort and private club management. Bill Wagner, CCM Wagner, 2005 president of CMAA, was manager of Riviera Country Club in Coral Gables, Florida, for 16 years. As general manager, his initial focus will be on the magnificent 48,000square-foot golf clubhouse. Wagner has been president of the Florida Chapter of CMAA and on the Board of Directors for 17 years. He has been serving on the national Board of Directors for CMAA for eight years, rising through the chairs to be named 2005 national president. Wagner serves on the Board of Governors for the Florida Chamber of Commerce, and in 2005 was named the Dedman School of Hospitality’s Alumnus of the Year. The Blacksburg Gives Back golf event, held July 3 and 4, raised $84,000 for the United in Caring Fund. Established by the United Way, United in Caring is the only fund providing assistance for families of those killed or injured in the April 16 Virginia Tech shootings and funds for the local community to recover from the tragedy. Blacksburg Country Club staff solicited vendors and other golf-related suppliers for auction item donations. E-Z-GO offered a 2007 four-passenger Freedom golf car valued at approximately $6,000. The PGA of America offered weeklong passes to the 2008 PGA Championship and 2008 Ryder Cup. Dr. Bobby Duval, a staff member of the Titleist Performance Institute, donated two trips to the TPI, valued at more than $7,500 each. Club managers from across the state of Virginia were incredibly generous as well. Many donated rounds of golf for a foursome at their clubs. “In late April, our goal was to make this a community recovery event,” said Blacksburg Country Club general manager Tom Deutsch. “In just eight short weeks, the community and beyond responded with incredible generosity.” Doug Wayne, PGA, moved from Cobblestone Creek Country Club in Victor, New York, (where he served as general manager for seven-and-a-half years) to Vienna, Virginia, where he is vice president of human resource development for Billy Casper Golf. Forsgate Country Club, central New Jersey’s most prestigious private country club, announces that acting general manager Det Williams Det Williams as been promoted to general manager. With more than 20 years of experience in the golf course management and food and beverage industries, Williams is perfectly suited to take this leadership role at Forsgate, home of 36 holes of championship golf, fine dining and hospitality, and state-of-the-art recreational amenities. Williams joined the RDC Golf Groupowned club in 2005 as food and beverage director. In this position, Williams supervised nearly 100 hospitality staffers and was primarily responsible for menu development, purchasing, short- and long-term forecasting and service enhancements. Williams was recognized with RDC’s Manager of the Year honor in 2005, and he played a pivotal role in Forsgate being recognized with an Award of Distinction by Wine Enthusiast magazine.
