Magazine Publishers of America 2008-2009 Membership Directory - (Page 7) About MPA International Membership Open to publishers based outside the U.S. Dues are invoiced annually at a rate of $2,750 US dollars for single country publishers and $3,250 for multi-national publishers; Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) is the industry association for consumer magazines. Established in 1919, the MPA represents more than 240 domestic publishing companies with approximately 1,400 titles, more than 80 international companies and more than 100 associate members. Staffed by magazine industry specialists, the MPA is headquartered in New York City, with an office of government affairs in Washington, DC. Membership is corporate, so all magazines at a member company and their staff enjoy equal privileges. Associate Membership ABOUT MPA Open to non-publishers affiliated with the magazine industry (i.e. deriving 20 percent or more of their annual revenue from the magazine industry; or, deriving at least $1 million in annual revenue from the magazine industry). Dues are invoiced annually in a five-tiered structure based on the company’s magazine industryrelated revenue only, as follows: $0-2 million = $2,500; $2-5 million = $4,000; $5-10 million = $6,000; $10-20 million = $10,000; and >$20 million = $15,000. We provide support to our members in the following ways: • Encouraging editorial excellence and expanding the market for magazine brands; • Promoting the value and benefits of advertising across all platforms; • Championing the rights of editors and publishers before Congress, the courts and state governments; • Informing and educating our members about changes in technology, law and industry best practices MPA Councils American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME): ASME is the professional society for senior editors of consumer magazines, business-to-business magazines and farm publications, which are edited, published and sold in the U.S. Organized in 1963 as the successor to the editorial committee of the MPA, ASME now has more than 900 members. Independent Magazine Group IMAG TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP Domestic Membership Open to publishers of magazines primarily intended for distribution in the U.S. and issued at least four times per year. MPA membership is corporate, so all magazines of a company enjoy the same privileges. Dues, invoiced quarterly, are based on gross revenues of the company’s magazine. Minimum dues are $1,500 per year ($375 per quarter). MPA Independent Magazine Advisory Group (MPA IMAG): A dynamic group within the Magazine Publishers of America, serving the specific business needs of independent magazines with relevant programming, practical resources and candid forums for the exchange of information and ideas among independent publishers. MPA-IMAG participation is open to all MPA member companies. Publishers Information Bureau Council (PIB): PIB is a membership organization administered by MPA that tracks the amount and type of advertising carried by consumer magazines. PIB is recognized as the primary source for consumer magazine advertising data, with a membership representing 85 percent of U.S. consumer magazine advertising volume. MPA members pay 50% less for PIB membership. 7
