INFORMATION CENTER The MPA maintains a library that houses historical and current industry information. MPA’s trained library staff compiles industry-specific information from a wide variety of sources for its members and their clients. PUBLIC RELATIONS The MPA serves as the primary information source for the news media regarding the magazine publishing industry. MPA proactively disseminates information on issues and events of importance to MPA members and their constituents. You can get information on all of MPA’s activities at www.magazine.org. ABOUT MPA CONSUMER MARKETING The MPA works to increase magazine sales through both single copy and subscription distribution channels, thereby enabling future circulation growth and profitability. SURVEYS DIVERSITY Understanding that diversity means to “value and utilize the collective talents and contributions of all individuals regardless of difference and/or similarity” and that diversity management is to “support this collective talent in a way that adds a measurable difference to organizational and industrial performance,” MPA, in its commitment to the principles of equal employment opportunity and diversity, develops initiatives to help all employees reach their full potential via training, professional development, performance management, succession planning and retention; serves as an educational and information resource to the industry; and supports an industry culture that encourages respect, trust, acceptance and teamwork regardless of differences. The MPA conducts surveys on a wide variety of topics that allow members to measure their performance against industry averages to detect trends that affect all publishers. Surveys include the Financial Survey, Cash Compensation Survey and Employee Benefits Survey, among others. NEWSLETTERS The MPA publishes newsletters – The Washington newsletter, the newsletter of International Publishing, the MPA e-newsletter, Sales Edge and Behind the Numbers – to keep members abreast of developments in government affairs, consumer marketing, international affairs, and magazine advertising and research. GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS The MPA promotes and protects the industry’s interests at all levels of government. The Washington offi ce keeps members informed about government actions and polices that can affect their companies and presents industry positions to the Administration, the Congress, the Postal Service and Postal Rate commission and to regulatory agencies. COMMITTEES MPA is committed to serving the dynamic needs of our members by creating special groups to tackle a myriad of issues within the magazine business. More than 15 councils/committees comprised of personnel from member publishers meet regularly to discuss developments in the industry. Committees such as Accounting and Finance, Consumer Marketing, Government Affairs, Human Resources, International, Legal Affairs, Operations, Public Relations, Research and Tax help chart MPA positions on issues affecting the industry. In addition, MPA members receive special discounts on a variety of industry services on an ongoing basis, and are regularly invited to special networking events. INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS The MPA serves as a liaison and information source for domestic members regarding publishing outside the U.S. and for international members by connecting them with valuable contacts, partners and other resources to bring their products to the U.S PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT The MPA is the primary training resource for the magazine industry, conducting numerous seminars and workshops during the year addressing all aspects of magazine publishing.
