Bored Room? Pull your attendees out of the expected and into something completely different for an event to remember. By Amy Drew Thompson Attendee appetites have been whet, but for the moment it’s not about the banquet menu. As they file into AT&T Park, custom-printed tickets (perhaps emblazoned with the company logo) in hand, there is an audible hum of excitement. They’re not entirely sure what they’re in for at this quarterly meeting, but as their stubs are scanned – just as though they were here to see the Giants play – and an usher escorts them to their seats, it becomes clear. The CEO is not at home plate, however, nor a podium embedded into the pitcher’s mound. He’s standing right on top of a dugout. And his presentation is running behind him on the HD scoreboard in centerfield. Whether it’s the exciting atmosphere of a landmark ball field, velvet-rope access to a sumptuous luxury box, the intimate opulence of a private fine-dining venue or the grand scale of a vast and infinitely versatile multiuse facility, sometimes thinking outside the box for an event location is just what the meeting doctor ordered. This ain’t your daddy’s PowerPoint Whether it’s the exciting atmosphere of a landmark ball f ield, velvet-rope access to a sumptuous luxury box, the intimate opulence of a private fine-dining venue or the grand scale of a vast and infinitely versatile multi-use facility, sometimes thinking outside the box for an event location is just what the meeting doctor ordered. Sporty Spice “In addition to obvious advantages like increased attendance and the caché of opening up spaces that are otherwise only available to professional athletes,” says Joey Nevin, sales coordinator for AT&T Park, “we have found that one of the biggest benefits our clients have enjoyed is the opportunity to take advantage of our world-class technology.” In addition to its gargantuan scoreboard – one of the nation’s largest – the park boasts full-venue Wi-Fi, but that hardly means groups of less than 40,000 need not apply. Nevin says the park is happy to offer a cozy setting for 20 in the players’ clubhouse – or even a dugout. “The great thing about our venue,” Nevin points out, “is that because we have so many event spaces, we are able to customize a program that fits almost any budget.” He adds that they work closely with in-house caterer Bon Appétit to provide local and sustainable menu options at competitive prices. Spor ting venues are popular, says Jason Clause, because clients and staff love to attend. After five years working in marketing and sales at Endsight, he’s found that NBA events – particularly those held in the comfort of an Oracle Arena luxury box – are very exciting. “[In a box], attendees can lounge in the back of the suite and visit or network with others – even get their photo taken with the Warriors’ mascot. The visit is included in the price of the suite.” Attendees who prefer to watch the game can sit either in the included stadium seats or at the bar-style tables located direc tly behind them. “The MPINCCperspective | VOL. 28, NO. 5 | 13
