p r e s i d e n t ’s m e s s a g e Collaboration Continues with New Program Year With the end of the MPINCC program year approaching on June 30, 2009, I would like to take this time to refl ect on the chapter’s accomplishments and thank this year’s leadership team for their ambitious goal-setting, cross-committee communication and incredible support for one another. We truly connected through collaboration. I am so proud of our chapter and the dedicated members and volunteers that help shape it. MPI continues to think of the Northern California Chapter as one of the most innovative chapters within MPI and here’s why. This year, the chapter has: • Exceeded membership retention rate and increased membership. As of Feb. 28, we were the second largest chapter in MPI thanks to our dedicated membership recruitment and retention team. • More membership involvement than ever before with the launch of the bite-sized projects with the volunteer bank. This has allowed those members who want to participate more without a major commitment. • Increased overall event attendance by 18 percent thanks to the education and event teams for their high-level delivery. • Launched new community involvement endeavor and made a positive impact on the community through support of Project Homeless Connect and several Bay Area food banks. • Greened our meetings with use of less paper, carbon offsetting and partnering with like-minded venues and suppliers. • Initiated AT&T Park-sponsored and MPI Foundation-granted Student Affairs program to enhance education and opportunities for students entering the meetings profession. • Won the “What’s my Future?” video contest with the help of Orange Photography, announced at the WEC in August 2008. • Designed new Web site for enhanced communication and interaction. • Delivered valuable, timely and relevant industry news through monthly Newsflash and print and online issues of Perspective. • Brought back the Golf Tournament that turned out to be an incredible day for connecting and making business happen. Plans are already in place for our 2009 tournament on Nov. 2. • Held a successful industry Trade Show with reportedly the highest level of qualified buyers in attendance ever. • Enhanced technical offerings and education through fi rst-ever Webinar as well as successful technology day. • Had a high level of sponsorship support from our industry suppliers allowing the chapter to fund higher education, enhance event experiences and increase opportunities for connecting. • Gleaned a wealth of information from our three focus groups and comprehensive member survey that the chapter leadership team will address in the coming months. The chapter will continue to build on the momentum from this past year and is already working on plans to enhance educational offerings, increase support for our members in need, and offer more ways to connect and do business. More on this in August from incoming President Chad Ammon, Director of Meetings & Events, Results Delivered, LLC. I would like to share a heartfelt thank you to my extraordinary leadership team, and express gratitude to you — our amazing members. Now, more than ever, we can appreciate the sense of community that MPINCC brings to each one of us. ● By Molly Walsh, CMP I would like to share a heartfelt thank you to my extraordinary leadership team, and express gratitude to you — our amazing members.
