Meeting MPI Toronto - March/April 2011 - (Page 15)

Industry Book Review By Nikki Sayers, CMP, Ontario Bar Association businessmen of his time, including Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and Andrew Carnegie, and how they used their success to gain what they truly wanted. One of the chapters I found that many planners and suppliers could benefit from is Chapter #7 – Organized Planning: The Crystallization of Desire into Action. Now at this point, you will be going into the sixth step of defining your purpose. Hill engages you to build your “mastermind” by looking at the attributes/failures in leadership, the capital value of your services, and where and how one can find an opportunity that correlates with their purpose. Think and Grow Rich is a blueprint of how I define success in all aspects of my life and the steps it takes to get there. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely one of the biggest procrastinators and can be generally overcautious. When that happens, I go back to certain chapters that clearly define how to push these judgments away, and I realize that I do have ABSOLUTE CONTROL over my thoughts! It takes half your life before you discover life is a do-it-yourself EE project. – Napoleon Hill Nikki Sayers, CMP is a Meeting Planner with the Ontario Bar Association. She can be reached at nsayers@oba.org. Desire is the starting point of all achievement, not a hope, not a wish, but a keen pulsating desire which transcends everything. – Napoleon Hill WHAT’S ON YOUR bookshelf? I have Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich. I was first introduced to Think and Grow Rich at an event planning conference in San Diego last March, and have used it as a consistent point of reference on what success means to me. Like many of you, I constantly struggle to identify what success means. Is it power, a job title, how much money is in the bank, or perhaps sheer determination to follow my purpose? This book’s function is to change your mindset to identify what you truly want from your life and build the foundation to get there and the plan to see it through. Now, this book may sound similar to The Secret, but this was an original bestseller that was written in 1937, and identifies clear and concise steps on how you can reach your highest potential.
