Building Human Connections MENTORING By Kim Gervais CMP, Creative Expressions Event Consulting IN KEEPING WITH this month’s theme of collaboration, what better time to demonstrate this key message in action, than with an article highlighting the MPI Mentorship Program? The definition of mentor is “a wise and trusted counsellor or teacher; an influential supporter; a person who advises.” Collaboration, working together and creating a partnership are some of the key roles of the MPI Mentorship Program. For those of you who have been lucky enough to either have been mentored or have been a mentor, you know the win-win benefits this relationship can provide. For those of you who have not had the experience, this is a proven way to take your leadership skills to the next level and in the case of the mentor to share your knowledge. MPI’s Mentorship Program has successfully matched several people. Samantha Smith of BBW International and industry veteran Duff Shaw had a very positive outcome from their participation in the program. With Duff’s extensive industry background as one of the founders of the MPI Toronto Chapter, acting on MPI Boards, SITE Canada President and teacher at Ryerson University, he could certainly lend some sound advice and guidance to Samantha. • The Joyof ME TING 31
