San Diego Firestorm 2007 SDMPI Members Rally By Holly Young, CMP Photographs courtesy of White Lotus Productions AS THE RECENT SAN DIEGO FIRES were burning out of control, a group of SDMPI members pitched in to start the clean-up effort. White Lotus Productions turned its warehouse and shop into a factory to mass-produce mesh and wooden screens used by those who lost their homes to sift through ash. Calls and e-mails went out to fellow MPI members for volunteers to help make the screens and for donations of materials and supplies. Fellow MPI members showed up in droves to assemble the screens and to distribute them to families whose homes were ravaged by the ﬁ res. Those who couldn’t be there in person showed their spirit with ﬁ nancial support. WAY TO GO SDMPI!! More than 350 screens were distributed to Rancho Bernardo, Jamul, Escondido, East County and Lomas Ceritos. Peggy Jewel recalls a vivid story from ﬁve years ago, “We had a dear friend and fellow MPI member, Linda Goldman, lose her home in the Cedar ﬁ res. The sifters were an invaluable tool that day. While we were sifting through a pile of ash we found a man’s ring, still in the velvet jewel box.
