BRANCHING OUT, TOUCHING LIVES A book by one of Tisdale’s heroes, spiritual teacher and writer Eckhart Tolle, led her to become involved in Operation HOPE, a nonprofit organization founded by John Hope Bryant, who rebounded fom homelessness to raise more than $500 million for his philanthropic campaign targeting the poor. By supporting Operation HOPE, Tisdale highlighted financial illiteracy and expanded the organization. Tisdale joined the nonprofit‘s Northeastern board in February. Bryant calls Tisdale a “dedicated, infectious journalist who is both business- and mediasavvy.” All in all, Tisdale feels that her book has brought her luck. “Because of it, I’ve been serving a lot as a financial expert on The Today Show, which has given me a large platform to talk about some of these issues.” mba The Big Three In the book The True Cost of Happiness: The Real Story Behind Managing Your Money, authors Stacey Tisdale and Paula Boyer Kennedy offer these as the major influences behind why and how we spend our money: 1. The lessons we learned about money when we were growing up. 2. The messages society tells us about money. 3. The messages we tell ourselves about money. ONE, TWO, THREE Three forces, she found, influence our financial behavior. She tagged them “The Big Three Money Scripts,” using a term from her friend and financial planner Rick Kahler, president of Kahler Financial Group. He contends people are like actors who follow what’s written by someone else.
