CAREER On the Move Dr. dt ogilvie, associate professor of business strategy at Rutgers Business School – Newark and New Brunswick and vice chair of the Board of Directors of the National Black MBA Association® has been named director of The Center for Urban Entrepreneurship & Economic Development at Rutgers Business School. Established in spring 2008, the mission of The Center is to build a world-class research-driven, teaching, and practitioner-oriented urban entrepreneurship and economic development program that will transform the economy of the City of Newark, New Jersey, and other urban centers; create wealth in urban communities; and be a model for all urban universities. THOMAS DORTCH, chairman and CEO of TWD, Inc., and NBMBAA Board Member, received the FraserNet Community Service Award, presented in June during the FraserNet National PowerNetworking Conference in Atlanta, Ga. In April, NBMBAA Board Member KEITH WYCHE, president of U.S. Operations for Pitney Bowes Management Services Inc., was inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr. International Board of Renaissance Leaders, established by Morehouse College. Wyche is among the first class of inductees to the board, joining luminaries from other fields, including U.S. Rep. Charles B. Rangel, actor Blair Underwood and sports agent Bill Duff. Wyche has also co-authored a new book, Good Is Not Enough (And Other Unwritten Rules for Minority Professionals), available July 3 (See story on page 85) . The book discusses what minority professionals need to do to succeed, with lessons that include understanding how others see you because their perception can become your reality. NBMBAA San Francisco Chapter President JEFF HATCHER was honored with a Supplier of the Year Award for his company, Over the Top Coaching. The Northern California Supplier Development Council 70 BlackMBA • Summer 2008 • www.nbmbaa.org presented the award during its Supplier Diversity Awards Gala in March. VAL BOSTON III has been named Director of Client Services for Novations Group, a Boston-based global consulting and training organization. Boston, a Piedmont-Triad member, previously held positions at Sprint Nextel, Spherion HCCG and Right Management, and he was a principal of his own firm, Boston and Associates. Boston is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from LaSalle University. Twin Cities Chapter Vice President-Administration ROGER MCKNIGHT has just accepted the role as vice president of consumer marketing at UnitedHealthCare, an operating division of UnitedHealth Group, the largest single health carrier in the United States. McKnight previously served as the vice president of marketing for Wells Fargo & Company’s Wealth Management Group. LUCY J. REUBEN (MBA, Ph.D. University of Michigan) has been appointed Professor of the Practice of Business Administration at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. Dr. Reuben, NBMBAA life member and a member of the National Urban League’s Council of Economic Advisors, published an essay in NUL’s The State of Black America 2008 titled “Make Room for the New ‘She’ EOs: An Analysis of Business Owned by Black Females.” Spelman College students SHAMEKA “POETRY” THOMAS and ALI HOLNESS were among 50 young women from around the world who attended the 2008 Insight Dubai “Conference for Young Woman Around the World” in the United Arab Emirates March 23-27. Thomas, a sociology major who will graduate in 2010, is a former NBMBAA Leaders of Tomorrow® student, as well as founder and president of the SistaSpeakUp Poetry Society. Holness, who will graduate in 2009, is an international studies major.
