College of Business Located in the capital of Tennessee and home to several major manufacturers and industries, the Tennessee State University College of Business offers a combination of teaching, research and service focused on contemporary business operations, entrepreneurship and urban economic development. The school has received about $1 million in state funds to help implement some academic program initiatives, including an undergraduate concentration in e-Business, enhancement of the MBA program and development of a master’s degree program in business information systems. It works with the surrounding community through a variety of outreach programs such as the Nashville Business Incubation Center and the Small Business Development Center. School of Business and Economics When Quiester Craig became business dean at North Carolina A&T University (NCAT) 35 years ago, the business school primarily educated those who sought to become teachers. Since this time, the program has evolved to offer bachelor’s degrees in four disciplines – accounting, business administration, business education and economics and transportation/logistics. It also offers graduate programs in the areas of management and teaching business education. The school offers several special programs, including one in frontline sales and leadership. This program trains students to lead individuals working as the first point of contact in a business or industry. It focuses on leadership, customer service and marketing. In addition, NCAT’s business school and agricultural school have come together to form the Interdisciplinary Center for Entrepreneurship & E-Business, which helps students explore and experience entrepreneurship and matches them with successful entrepreneurs to gain the added benefit of hands-on learning. Texas Southern University Houston, Tex. Jesse H. Jones School of Business The Jesse H. Jones School of Business is listed in the Princeton Review 2008 edition of the Best 290 Business Schools. This school is viewed as one of the best institutions for earning an MBA. Its goal is to equip future business leaders with technical knowledge, critical-thinking skills and the ability to communicate ideas in an increasingly global environment. In addition to traditional academic programs such as accounting, finance and business management, the school offers a program in corporate treasury management.
