The Connector - Winter 2009 - (Page 15) RWAU office with any questions or concerns (801-756-5123). We look forward to seeing you in St. George this March!!! seven years. “I’ve decided there’s never a good time to retire,” Olds said, “and it’s probably in my best interest to try something else.” Mr. Olds was initially appointed State Engineer in February 2002 replacing Robert Morgan when he became Executive Director of Department of Natural Resources. Jerry holds a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from Utah State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Utah. To highlight a few of Jerry’s accomplishments during his career with the Winter 2009 Division of Water Rights; he assisted with the automating of Utah’s water rights records, the negotiations of federal and Indian reserved water rights claims, and numerous water resource investigations statewide. Jerry has been a fantastic supporter of the Rural Water Association spending many hours as a trainer in RWAU classes and conferences and working directly with the water systems in Utah. He will definitely be missed. RWAU wins National Awards The Rural Water Association of Utah was recognized nationally with two different National Rural Water Association (NRWA) awards at this year’s NRWA Annual Conference in Reno, Nevada, October 6—8, 2008. “The Rural Water News” Utah’s quarterly newsletter (which recently went digital) was recognized with a Merit of Honor as being one of the best rural water newsletters in the nation. Additionally, Shannon Rasmussen, RWAU’s Event Planner and Conference coordinator was awarded the Member Service Peer Leadership Award from her peers across the Nation for 2008. Congratulations RWAU! Turnkey Installation Conception to Commission Rural Water Board Changes Long-time Utah Board Member and NRWA Director Neil Forster resigned from his position on the National Rural Water Board following a major heart surgery this past September. Neil participated in one final NRWA Board meeting via telephone as they met in Reno, Nevada this past October. He expressed his appreciation for the honor of serving on the NRWA Board. Neil will retain his position on the Utah Rural Water Board, but feels the travel required by an NRWA director was no longer feasible for him. Utah Rural Water Director Paul Fulgham, who is the Public Works Director for Tremonton City, was named as Neil’s NRWA successor by the RWAU Board. Paul was officially seated as a NRWA Director at the NRWA Meeting in Reno. Paul will also serve the NRWA Board on its Legislative Committee and its Professional Development Committee.
