The Connector - Winter 2009 - (Page 9) RWAU Winter 2009 Winter 2009 nte 009 Executive Director’s Comments Dale Pierson, RWAU Executive Director ou may have noticed that you are no longer receiving a “paper” copy of the RWAU Newsletter. That’s the small four to six page publication that we have, for past few years, been sending out between issues of our magazine, The Connector. That doesn’t mean that the newsletter has ceased to exist – we have just made the decision to provide it to you electronically. There are several reasons for this decision: We believe we can increase the newsletter’s readership. Formerly the “paper” newsletter was pretty much sent “one copy per system.” If the first person who looked at it tossed it, the rest of the people at the system never saw it. Now we can email it to everybody at the system. Y We want to fill the role of providing up-to-date information on Utah’s water and wastewater world. News contained in the newsletter can be kept more current. Nowhere in Utah is there a good source of up-to-date information on the water and wastewater world. There are a lot of sources of information, but no one compiles it in one easy-to-locate location. We want to fill this role. While the e-newsletter will be sent out at least once a month, nothing ties us to that schedule; and if there is breaking news that we think you all need to know, we can easily put out a special edition. Also, we will constantly update the new news section of our Web page at www.rwau.net so that current information is available to you. It’s cheaper and quicker than the paper copy. The ability to have more rapid notification of news and multiple issues within a given time frame are both tied to the cost of production. It can be used for our emergency response efforts. With RWAU and the UT-WARN system needing to quickly notify systems and system personnel of emergencies or potential activation of the WARN system, the e-newsletter and its electronic mailing list will mean reducing response and readiness time appreciably. So, what’s the downside to all this? One thing - the dreaded email address! In order to make this thing work we need to make certain that we have an email address for everybody who wants to receive the e-newsletter. If you haven’t received the first editions of the e-newsletter, log on to the RWAU Web site at www.rwau.net/enewsletter and register your email address, or call us at (801) 756-5123 to place your email on our electronic mailing list. 9 The Connector Connecto Connector onn tor http://www.rwau.net/enewsletter http://www.rwau.net
