The Connector - Spring 2008 - (Page 9) RWAU Spring 2008 Letters From Readers Dear Rural Water, I’d like to express my gratitude to your organization and staff. I am the only water operator of our small system. I have a full time job and a family to raise. We provide water to 45 tap holders with a maximum water storage of 105,000 gallons from a spring that produces 25 gpm. Last June we had a leak in the main line and lost all of our water storage. The repairs were made, and it was later that I discovered that we were not getting what our springs produced. Our springs and supply lines are in steep mountain terrain. I’d checked the springs and as much of the supply line as I could before it got too dark. We simply could not supply enough water to keep up with demand. It had been four days of weather near and at times more than a hundred degrees (couldn’t have picked a worse time) with the majority of tap holders getting no water at all. Livestock were being moved or supplied with water from pumps in the river. I’d worked on the problem until nearly midnight one night and knew I needed some help. I made a call to Mr. Curtis Ludvigson. He answered and when I informed him of the situation he said he’d get right on it. Within minutes Terry Smith called stating he’d gather the necessary equipment and meet me the following day. We managed to find the problem the next morning prior to Terry Smith arriving. However, he asked what he could still do to help. Terry made a trip into the rental center and got wet with us in the storage tanks. This was not my first experience with Rural Water and your willingness to help when requested. I had not slept well for several days, but I slept much better after the call to you knowing help was on its way. Thank you very much. Kelly Roberts Austin SSD Operator / President To Whom It May Concern: I would like to thank the Rural Water Association of Utah for the help it lent to our town and water system. We were in need of a source protection update to be in compliance with the Utah Division of Drinking Water. Rural Water’s Groundwater Technician, Erin Borger, assisted us in completing the update to ensure that our town’s drinking water remain contaminant free. The Rural Water Association of Utah serves a vital role in the state, and should be commended on its dedication to training and technical assistance of water systems such as ours. Sincerely, Allen Pay Mona City Conference Attendee Comments: Thank you to everyone who attended our 2008 Annual Conference! Here are a few of your comments: • The training sessions were the best. There were numerous sessions that were well presented and provided useful information. • I appreciate the RWAU’s efforts to make this conference a great experience, as well as their staff’s friendliness and eagerness to help our community throughout the year. • Thank you to all who worked so hard to make this possible as well as the positive attitude—even when you are tired. You are an excellent example of how a diverse group can work inside one organization. Please remember the great help you are to small systems-especially the private ones. • I appreciate the countless hours that have been put in to provide a quality program to help further my career in water and provide me with more education. Good job! Thanks! • Don’t quiet hustling! The programs make the meeting. All of us benefit from those programs and presentations. Keep them as good as they were this year— and say an extra thanks to the exhibitors!
