The Connector - Summer 2008 - (Page 11) RWAU Summer 2008 Letters From Readers Dear Rural Water: On April 29, 2008, a Storm Water Fair was sponsored and presented by several entities in Cache County. The Fair consisted of 12 different stations dealing with various water topics, including water source protection, canals, water cycle, soil conservation, wetlands and water safety. Twenty-four classes of fourth grade students from around the valley attended a 15-18 minute presentation at each station. Utah’s school core curriculum dictates that fourth graders learn about the water cycle, and this fair was a chance to reinforce what the students have been learning yearlong. The topic presenters at two of the stations were representatives from the Rural Water Association of Utah. Erin Borger, Groundwater Specialist, and Jim Watts, Source Water Technician; each hosted an informative and interesting session on source protection. Millville City wishes to extend our thanks and gratitude to RWAU for making these individuals available for our Storm Water Fair. Thanks, Jim and Erin! Sincerely, Michael E. Johnson, Mayor The Millvile City Council Dear Mr. Pierson, I have had the pleasure of working with Erin Borger and Jim Watts on the update of our Drinking Water Source Protection plan. They made an excellent presentation to the City Council last Thursday night and helped the council understand source protection as well as the need to keep our plan updated. They were professional in their approach and competent in their presentation. Furthermore, I appreciate the fact that Rural Water has the staff and resources to help us out from time to time. Because of Nibley’s growth (more than doubled our population in the last 5 years), sometimes I feel all I do is put out fires rather than keep up with other requirements such as source protection updates! So thanks a lot for the help. I anticipate wrapping up the drinking water source plan update in the next few weeks with Erin. It will be a relief to have one less thing on my “to do” list! Appreciatively, Larry Anhder City Manager Nibley City Hi Shannon/Rural Water! Just a short note to say thanks and to tell you that the Water Rights Conference was great! Thanks for all you and the staff of Rural Water do for us. I have always been treated so graciously whenever I have needed help or requested information and I really appreciate it.
