It is time to send in your nominations either for an individual working with your system or for your system as a whole to win an Award of Excellence and get the credit you have coming to you. It is time to let your system and the people who make your water or wastewater system tick get the credit they deserve! Each year at RWAU’s Annual Conference in St. George, Utah, the Board of Directors presents awards to member systems, as well as system personnel, who have done an outstanding job of running their water or wastewater systems. This is your chance to help RWAU in honoring Utah’s BEST! The Awards Nomination forms for next year’s Awards of Excellence are now available—and waiting for you to highlight a deserving member who works hard to bring quality water to your citizens. Award categories are as follows: • Office Personnel Person of the Year • Elected/Appointed Official of the Year • Water Operator of the Year • Wastewater Operator of the Year • Outstanding Service by a Water Operator • Outstanding Service by a Wastewater Operator • Most Improved Water System • Most Improved Wastewater System • Outstanding Water or Wastewater Service to Customers • Supporting Member Award • Lifetime Achievement Award • Associate Member of the Year These award categories and the descriptions of some criteria used by the Awards Committee to select the winners for the 2007 calendar year can be found on the Rural Water website: www.rwau.net. This information has also been mailed to each system along with a nomination form. The deadline to turn in Award Nominations for your system is December 1, 2008! Don’t miss the chance to recognize the hard work your employees and volunteers put in every day—give them the chance to get the recognition they deserve! You can submit a nomination form for more than one category, but only one person per category may be nominated. Make extra copies of nomination form as needed. 13 Rural Water Scholarship Applications Due! The Rural Water Association has established a Scholarship Fund to recognize and assist qualified students in pursuit of higher education. We are now accepting applications for the two scholarships to be awarded at the RWAU Annual Conference in St. George this spring. Below are the Scholarship Program details and requirements. 1. Two scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each will be awarded for the academic school year 2009-2010. 2. Scholarship assistance will be paid in two installments, $750 for the Fall Semester in the year 2009 and $750 for the Spring Semester in the year 2010. 3. All awards will be issued directly to the applicant and not to the college, university or institution of higher learning. 4. Scholarship eligibility is not exclusive to graduating high school seniors. 5. All recipients of scholarships will be required to provide RWAU with proof of full-time enrollment each semester for which the scholarship is awarded at an accredited institution of higher learning. Payment will be made immediately upon proof of enrollment. 6. Eligibility for scholarships is limited to dependent children or stepchildren of full time employees, Board members or Council members of RWAU member systems. Dependent children of RWAU Board and Staff members are not eligible. 7. In order to be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must complete and submit the downloadable application form found on the RWAU website (www.rwau.net) in its entirety by completing all blanks and signing the certification statement. 8. Scholarship application must be received NO LATER THAN February 1, 2009. Scholarship awards will be announced on March 5, 2009 at the RWAU Annual Conference Voting Membership Meeting. Applicants will be evaluated on a comparative basis at the sole discretion of the RWAU Scholarship Committee. Priority may be given, but not limited, to water/wastewater related studies, environmental science, and engineering. The Scholarship Application Form can be found or on our website at www.rwau.net. Also, watch for the forms in your system’s mailbox! The RWAU Scholarship Program is designed to help defray the costs of tuition, fees, books and/or room and board. RWAU reserves the right to revise or withhold the award of any or all scholarships offered. Decisions of the Committee will be final. Application materials and decisions of the committee shall be confidential. Acceptance of scholarship constitutes permission by RWAU to promote names and/or likeness of scholarship winners.
