NRWA President Rodney Tart, from Harnett County, N.C., has made encouraging state associations to build their relationships with their congressmen and senators a priority for his presidency, stating, “The core of the inf luence and persuasion that allow for us to accomplish our agenda in Washington happens back home. Our grassroots relationship with congressmen and senators is our strength. As president, I plan on encouraging state board members and others to begin a more aggressive grassroots movement in building these relationships. Now is time to take this to the next level. Please stand up for rural water and take responsibility for getting to know your representatives and ensuring they know why your association is where small and rural communities turn for the most effective environmental protection efforts for drinking water and wastewater quality, groundwater protection, source water protection and compliance with federal mandates from the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), the Clean Water Act (CWA) and other federal laws.
