It is often said that we are known by the friends we keep, and I know of no better way to keep special friends in my life than to share a cup of coffee and all that it entails. Once again, I am ever grateful for this precious thing called water. It is with this same water that the birds of the sky and the animals of the land are nourished. It is in the streams, lakes and oceans of water that fish are given a place to f lourish, where ducks and geese can f loat freely on its surface, bringing beauty into our life. An ice-cold glass of fresh water on a hot summer day. A glass of lemonade or iced tea on the patio as the sun is setting on the beautiful North Dakota horizon. A cup of freshly brewed coffee as we share a friendship so vital to who we are as a person. Once again, I am ever grateful for this precious thing called water. It is water that fills our lakes and pools for recreational enjoyment, allowing us to kick back, relax and enjoy the finer things life has to offer. I am thankful for indoor pools and time spent with grandchildren as they learn to swim in this most wonderful substance called water. For the laughs and smiles, the excitement and enjoyment it brings to my loved ones. Who would ever have guessed this thing called water could bring so much to a family? For the enjoyment it brings into my life as it helps my lawn and garden to f lourish, for it is when I am in my yard and garden that I am most rewarded. It is here I am reminded of all the blessings God has brought into my life. My family, my friends, my love of writing and reading. My love of a long soak in the tub, bringing comfort to my aging body. The pleasure I receive as I sip the first cup of fresh-brewed coffee each morning and enjoy time with the man with whom I chose to spend the rest of my life. Water – so si mple, yet so complex. Giving us so much and expecting nothing in return. This year, as I give t ha n k s for t he ma ny blessings in my life, I will indeed say a special thank you for this precious thing called water and all it brings to enrich my life.
