This year’s judges were: EPA’s Ben Grumbles, USDA’s Teresa Lasseter and Melanie Rhinehart with U.S. Rep. Pomeroy (ND). The water was judged based on clarity, bouquet and taste. AND THE WINNERS ARE…the Gold Medal was awarded to Southampton, Mass.; the Silver Medal to Rural Lorain County, Ohio; and the Bronze to North Kingstown, R.I. Often, the public is not aware that tap water is subject to strict environmental inspections and is often tested more frequently than water found in a bottle. In fact, if you look on the label of bottled water, it often comes straight from a local tap. If you think yours is the best, then put it to the test! Check with your state rural water association about their Water Taste Test, and come to Washington and compete against the best of the best! We’ll see you next year at the GAWTT! 46 • Second Quarter 2008
