Rural Water - Quarter 3, 2008 - (Page 40) There’s a well-kept secret in DeKalb, Ill., one that Engineered Storage Products is happy to share: higher capacity storage tanks that can hold nearly half again as much water as before. The company is also releasing new plastic yokebox lids and jumbo upper sections. The locking lids are for standard, enlarged and long yokeboxes, and feature an optional lid bracket for mounting standard-sized ERT units. They have a load rating of 1,000 pounds. The jumbo upper section for a standard yokebox offers additional space for mobility when installing or removing the meter, and the plastic enables easy readings without physically accessing the meter. Ford Meter Box is also offering new 15˝ and 18˝ coil pit setters. Made of flexible high-density tubing, the meter setting can be easily raised for maintenance and then lowered to its original setting below the frost line to prevent freezing. The 15˝ pit setter became available in March 2008; the 18˝ variety just became available July 1. Safety and security features Outdated infrastructure and newer regulations by the Environmental Protection Agency often make rural water systems challenging. Hydra-Stop is focused on making system maintenance safer and easier. “We’re working on pipes installed in the late 1800s and early 1900s,” explains general manager Brett Haynes. “It’s a matter of ‘out of sight, out of mind.’ More money gets put into roads and bridges because they’re seen, but our infrastructure underground is deteriorating so rapidly that it’s harder to maintain the system.” System maintenance can prove costly. Between notifying the state health departments and the EPA before shut downs, time and money are spent >>42 CONTROL MICROSYSTEMS SCADA products for the distance Evolve your ideas SCADA products designed to ensure data integrity in any water or wastewater monitoring system.
